Stacey Klein | Psychotherapy for a New Earth

COVID -19 Update: I am working exclusively online via telehealth sessions on the East and West Coast.

Read my newly published chapter on the relationship between the highly sensitive child, trauma and ocd.

Here is Edward Bear, coming downstairs now, bump, bump, bump, on the back of his head behind Christopher Robin. It is, as far as he knows, the only way of coming downstairs, but sometimes he feels that there really is another way, if only he could stop bumping for a moment and think of it.

Welcome to my website! I’m an integrative and holistic psychotherapist in private practice. I currently offer  psychotherapy and consultations for psychotherapists online. I work with children, adolescents, adults and couples. My practice is bi-coastal to New York and California. I am LGBTQ friendly and I  help people of all ages successfully understand and ease their conflicts about living, make peace with their minds by helping them live more fully in their bodies and learn to better listen to the “still small voice” of their own hearts.

In our work together, while I will offer you or your child tools for managing your symptoms, our focus will be on getting to the root cause of your struggles rather than on  “quick fix” symptom relief (though you will likely experiences symptom relief anyway!). Over time, this will help change your relationship to your symptoms, lessening your reliance on them so that you can experience long term healing. Therapy that addresses the whole of you- the relationship between your mind and body  – helps you create new neural pathways so you can live more freely and have access to the full vitality and joy that is your true nature.  This kind of therapy, that honors your story but doesn’t let you stay stuck in it for years, changes your experience of yourself and your world.

Did you know that the word “psyche” (the first part of psychotherapy) actually means soul or animated spirit? Many therapies still don’t acknowledge the soul and work more narrowly on your personality, but whether you take a mystical/ Kabbalistic approach viewing this as your “higher consciousness” or your soul , or a Buddhist approach and call it  “the one who knows”, or a  Freudian approach that tunes into your  “unconscious” self, this deeper part within you constantly communicates with you through the language of poetry, images, dreams, archetypes and metaphors. If  you live primarily on the  surface of your experience  (as our world pulls us to do) , rarely questioning your chattering mind and its limiting patterns and beliefs and going deeper into your feelings,  you miss out on receiving the complete story of who you truly are and the potentiality of who you can be. You are much greater, vaster and more beautiful than anything your thoughts might try to convince you!

I can help you restore access to the deeper longings of your heart,  to your deeper nature, so that you can shift areas of your life that are stuck and unsatisfying and live more from this wiser place within.  The “mental health symptoms”, physical challenges and addictions  you experience are really a sign that a deeper part of you wants your attention. When attended to, these symptoms improve and you get unstuck.

I see good psychotherapy as alchemy. Through our work together, we will  help you experience a sense of wholeness in your life and transform your relationship to your struggles by attending to all levels of your being- your mind, body and spirit. If you decide to work with me, you will receive my full presence, care and attention to all of who you are as we work to help ease your suffering.

Why psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is the light that can pierce through the fog. It is a powerful path and a unique relationship that develops between you and your therapist. This partnership awakens you to your inner life and to the light that you uniquely are to the world. It can lead you towards living a more meaningful, joyful and present centered life.

Psychotherapy cultivates an awareness of your way of being in the world, helps you learn how to gently move through your feelings rather than avoid them and how to observe, unravel and release limiting beliefs. Enhanced awareness  of your experience opens up new possibilities and deeper satisfaction. Additionally, many of our emotions and impulses remain unresolved due to trauma and overwhelm and trauma informed therapy  supports your ability to complete these experiences so you can feel less anxious and more alive.

The therapeutic relationship offers a secure base from which you can explore new avenues for coping with and transforming difficult experiences and feelings. As you become more aware of your feelings, your relationship with yourself and the world will change, your experience of life will shift and you will  discover easier access to states of  ease, grace and peace. Life will still be life with its unexpected twists and turns but you will have ways to navigate with greater skill and ground.
